Our core values

|

Word-Centered

To be a healthy church the Bible must be the basis for all doctrine and practice. It will be the driving force for all teaching and preaching. Consequently the Bible will be the foundation for all areas of church life.

Gospel-Focused

Word-centeredness is the backbone for gospel-focused. The gospel is a message that comes from the Word, so we cannot get the gospel except through the Bible. At the center of the Bible is the gospel that Jesus saves. The gospel is the lifeblood of the church, and without it the church has lost her purpose. Many churches have lost their focus on the gospel and exchanged it for programs or activities. Hence the gospel will be the overarching focus for all we do.

Commitment

In a noncommittal world, commitment is essential to the life of a disciple, more commitment, not less. Jesus always wants His disciples to surrender more, never less. Therefore we will be marked by our commitment to Christ and His Church.

w

Authentic

Church is not a show. God sees through that and so do genuine believers, so an authentic church will make a churchy person feel uncomfortable. We should live authentic lives and reject phoniness. We would rather a messy church than a pretend one. As a result we will strive to be real in our brokenness and purposeful in our journey towards holiness.

Community

Since the church is known as the family of God because we are all adopted in Christ, a member should feel as though they have relatives that may not be related by blood (moms and dads, aunts and uncles, grandparents and grandchildren, etc.). A sense of belonging is a crucial part of a local church. Hence we will embrace the people God sends to us and love each other like Christ loves us.

R

Simple

Church has become complex in America, yet Jesus entrusted His church with lowly apostles. Church should be simple. Thus we will purposefully stay simple in a complex world. Programs will be few. Jesus, the Word, prayer, people—to name a few—will be the emphasis. Busyness will be rejected as a distraction in order to maintain focus on making disciples.

OUr Biblical Basis | Acts 2:42

“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”

Why johnson city?

I have been coming to Johnson City to visit family since I was a child. When Amanda and I got married she fell in love with the town just like I had. Within the past year our love for the land has changed to a burden for the people. We now want to see God do a work that is beyond our imagination in a town we love.

— John Denby

Pastor John & Family

John married the love of his life, Amanda, in 2004, and they have three children (Luke, Joel, and Anayah). Both he and Amanda have a burden for the unchurched in Johnson City.

John was born and raised in southeast Texas and was saved at 8. At 22 the Lord called him into ministry during his last semester at Lamar University before graduating with degrees in accounting and finance. He started seminary the next semester at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated in 2009 with a Master of Divinity. He later earned a Doctor of Ministry in Expository Preaching from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2016. He has served as music/youth minister and pastor in southeast Texas churches. John is passionate about loving on people and seeing them come to know Christ in an intimate way.

While pastoring Harvest Point Church in Nacogdoches, TX, John and Amanda experienced church in a fresh and encouraging way. When God called them to start a church in Johnson City, they knew the name should be Harvest Point Church, Johnson City, because of what God did in Nacogdoches. Now Harvest Point Church in Nacogdoches is sending out the Denby’s in order that more people may come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior in Johnson City.

When we gather

Sunday WORSHIP

 Sundays at 10 AM

1. 2936 Ranch Rd 1323, Johnson City, TX 78636
2. Bring a chair and wear shoes that can get dirty.
3. While we want to be together, our time together will be “contactless.”

Since the city park is still closed, we will gather for worship at an equine center 3.0 miles down Sandy Rd. Look for our church signs. There is plenty of room for us to spread out and lots of wind which will lower any exposure to the coronavirus. Pictures are included.

There is plenty of space for us to distance ourselves by family units. Once you arrive, you will not have to touch anything. We will continue with our creative greetings to keep our 6 feet distance. You may wear a mask or not. We leave that up to you.

If you feel it is best for you to stay home, we will livestream the worship time through our normal outlets of Facebook and YouTube. We want you to feel safe and know we do not want to pressure anyone to go against their conscience.

We will have restroom facilities with plenty of soap and water and hand sanitizer on the side.

We understand these plans will be too strict for some and too relaxed for others, but we are trying to create an environment where all will feel comfortable. Please pray that we can move forward in unity with lots of grace along the way.

Wednesdays at 5:30 PM

For a season we will gather through the video conferencing app called Zoom. Through this app, we can all virtually join in together. At 5:30 p.m. or a few minutes before, you can click the button below.

Be sure to have the Zoom app already installed before clicking the link (see below for installation instructions). We will focus on the Word and check in on everyone.

You can first download the app on whatever device you plan to use (phones work just fine). The app is called “Zoom Cloud Meetings” (should be first app listed if you type “Zoom” in your app store). You need to let the app access your microphone so you can talk. You will also want to use internet audio if you want to hear everyone. You can explore beforehand if you like.
